The Wildwood Motel and cabin rentals are located within the city limits of Gunnison, Colorado. Gunnison Motel rooms are difficult to reserve in peak season, so book in advance or plan a mid-week, or shoulder season stay for last minute reservations. Modern Gunnison cabin rentals and vacation homes are also available for nightly, weekly and monthly vacation rentals. If you are looking for a Gunnison Motel, the Wildwood Motel is a must! Gunnison Motel and The “Original Wildwood Resort” History
The original lodging was built in 1928 by the Chicago Mafia. The Andersons bought the property 20 years ago and immediately began making improvements. The Wildwood has been a favored lodging facility for visitors to Gunnison from all around the globe. Coloradoans and out of state visitors who come to Gunnison to fish, hunt, ski, bike, enjoy the outdoors and even work here temporarily have made the Wildwood their home away from home for over 80 years. To meet the changing desires of guests, we upgraded the motel into convenient condo efficiency units and built modern 2 and 3 bedroom cabins to economically accommadate larger parties. When you stay with Perry and Teresa, you’ll benefit from 20 years of experience helping people plan out their day fishing on the Taylor or Gunnison Rivers, or any of the other 2000 miles of rivers and streams in the Gunnison basin by providing you maps, tips and information. As avid outdoorsmen and sportsmen we can visit with you about hunting, ATV trails, fishing, golfing, hiking and biking. We will make arrangements with you for easy check in by providing you a code for secure keypad entry upon arrival.
Blue Mesa Reservoir is the largest lake in Colorado and is a favorite for Kokanee Salmon fishermen. The lake is a short 10 mile drive from the Wildwood. The Gunnison Country offers many activities for the outdoor enthusiast and you’re sure to find a place and activity that will allow you to rejuvinate your spirit and put a long lasting smile on your face.
The Wildwood has long been a favorite vacation retreat for families and sportsman when visiting and conveniently located for those working in the Gunnison area. We are not your typical roadside lodging facility. We are built and maintained in a park like setting, with an an on-site laundry facility, picnic pavilion, ample boat and ATV parking, fish cleaning station, a family atmosphere.
The Condo Studio units with full kitchen are perfect for the budget conscious family. Studios units have 1 or 2 queen beds sleeping 2-4 guests and are housekeeping units with no maid service provided. Free basic WiFi near the office, cable tv and local phone calls are standard. All units have private baths, furnished kitchens and linens provided. Upon making your reservations, you will be mailed specific details about check in and your room accommodations. In the past, Frommer’s Travel Guide has noted that the rentals managed by the Andersons, are not fancy, but quiet, clean and well maintained. Each of the Studio condo units are now individually owned by private parties. The Andersons are managing a few of those units for new and return guests from a minumum stay to weekly to monthly rentals. For more information and photos, click on MOTEL tab. We are proud of the addition of cabin rentals to our lodging business serving larger parties. Our cabins are newly constructed as of 2004. Enjoy spacious 3 bedrooms/2 baths, sleeping up to 8 people comfortably. We also offer 2 bedrooms/2 baths cabins sleeping up to 6 people. Free basic WiFi in most units , cable TV in all rooms, well equipped with fully furnished kitchens and all linens provided. Deluxe cabins have washers and dryers. We are located within minutes of every outdoor activity the Colorado Rocky Mountains are famous for. Only a short drive for fishing on the Gunnison River, Lake Fork, Taylor River and Taylor Reservoir as well as the East River. Hike the Gunnison National Forest, Crested Butte, and check out the Colorado Wildflowers in July at the Crested Butte Wildflower Festival. It’s an easy 30 minute scenic drive to Crested Butte Mountain Resort for alpine or nordic skiing. Monarch Ski Area is a short drive to Monarch Pass. Summer or winter, there’s plenty to do.
